How Agricultural Choice Gas Works in Nebraska.

With the deregulation of natural gas for Nebraska, you have the opportunity to choose who your natural gas commodity supplier is. As a result, you can compare offers from different natural gas commodity suppliers and Black Hills Energy will still maintain your local natural gas system, read your meters, and mail your bills.

Your Black Hills Energy bill has a line item stating the supplier you are receiving your natural gas commodity from as well as a line item showing the therms of natural gas used together with the price you are billing. These charges include billing line items for the supplier you selected and the amount of gas used with the price you signed up for. For example, if you select Vista Energy Marketing, you will see a billing line item for Vista Energy Marketing and an additional line item for the Commodity Charge at your selected price.

As an eligible Agricultural Choice Gas customer, you are able to participate in the annual selection period to choose a natural gas commodity supplier and price option for the upcoming year, provided you did not enter into a multi-year term agreement last year.

If you decide not to choose a new natural gas commodity supplier, your account will roll over to your current supplier and pricing option.

If you choose roll over, your final price will be determined by your current natural gas commodity supplier within 15 days after the selection period ends.

Pricing Options

Go Big Red Fixed Price

A 12/24/36-month natural gas commodity price per therm that is fixed or “locked-in.” Even if market prices change, your natural gas commodity price per therm is locked in for the entire term selected. Your natural gas commodity portion of your utility bill will vary based upon natural gas usage only.

Go Big Red Index Price

A month-to-month market natural gas commodity price per therm that changes each month based on market price fluctuations. This price includes two components you should consider when comparing market index prices: the market index value used and the adder. The index value of your price follows market changes each month, while the adder remains constant throughout the term selected. The natural gas commodity portion of your utility bill will also vary based on your natural gas usage.
